Shandali Hot Yoga Towel: Review

As many of you have read in my past blogs I have been practicing yoga since I was pregnant. Now that I already have the yoga strap (view original post here) – I was ready for something new to help my workouts. I have just started practicing PiYo (a combo workout of pilates and yoga), and the workout is HARDCORE…I am drenched when the 30 minute session is over – so when I was asked to review the Shandali Hot Yoga Towel, I couldn’t have been more happy!

Being that I do get sweaty during my workouts, this Hot Yoga Towel helps to prevent my yoga mat from getting slippery plus it also helps me become more stable on the mat, as well as being a bit more comfortable and its hygienic. I always wipe my yoga mat down when I’m done, but this hot yoga towel makes it easier to know I can just throw it in the wash and know its clean and ready to go for the next workout. Now I haven’t been able to test it out in the colder/winter months yet, but I can imagine that it would be it more bearable to workout on the floor.  I have also brought my hot yoga towel with me to my weekly workout class to use as a towel to help absorb any sweat after my class – it really is a multi use product.

If your ready to get your hands on your very own Hot Yoga Towel, stop on over to purchase it on Amazon here (Shandali Hot Yoga Towel).

Happy Yoga!

Nineteen Eleven – Yoga Mat Strap Review

About a year ago, when I found out I was pregnant with my son – I got into yoga. I had heard so many great benefits of it helping with body aches and pain with pregnant women as well as helping with delivery. By far, one of the greatest things I have done for myself. I was able to reconnect with myself and learned to meditate as well – something I think in this day and age anyone can benefit from. Now, when I was going to and from classes it was a hassle to lug my yoga mat with me. I would have to carry it in my tote bag, but it would end up falling out. If I had this then, what a life changer it would have been for me. But that’s ok because now I do have it, and it truly makes life easier for the beginner yoga student to the expert yogi.

Nineteen Eleven got its name from their first address was 1911 and a lot of wonderful family memories were at this home address for them. They are two sisters who love to workout and practice yoga. Through some trial and error they found that other yoga slings/straps on the market were either, too loud, too complicated, not cute or ruined their expensive yoga clothes! This is how the idea to invent a fashionable and easy to use yoga mat sling was created.

As you can see I was able to review one of the yoga mat straps in purple and blue chevron design. This makes life easier carrying my yoga mat around. It’s definetly one of my new favorites items I have, and I highly recommend. Its super lightweight and comfortable, plus it stores easily when not in use.

Nineteen Eleven has been generous to offer my readers a special of 10% off your purchase at their website. Just make sure to enter savvychicmama at checkout to redeem.

Make sure to stop on over and get your yoga strap for you or someone you know.

Enjoy!!

A New Year A New You in 2014

8 Yoga Poses to Detox

If you’re one of the more than 15 million people in the United States practicing yoga, you already know how beneficial the poses and breathing techniques can be for your body, mind and overall well-being. Yoga, a centuries-old practice, stimulates blood flow, balances hormones, encourages digestion, lowers blood pressure and more.

But did you know that when you practice yoga, you’re not only stretching and massaging your limbs and inner organs, but you are also detoxing your body naturally? Different poses help circulate blood flow, stimulate digestion and help purge your body of toxins.

Certified Abe’s Market yoga instructor (and all-around great team member), Meghan Gerrity, explains why and how different poses are great for helping detox your body in various ways. This is a great way to kick off a new year, and if you need a little incentive, Abe’s Market has a complete yoga kit for sale for $49.95! Use code HAPPYNEWYEAR to get an additional 20% off if you purchase before January 1, 2014,

POSES:

Supta Matsyendrasana (Reclined Twist):

The reclined twist stimulates the flow of fresh blood to your digestive organs, which in turn increases the health and functioning of your entire digestive system

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Dog):

When in downward dog, one of the most common poses, yoga practitioners engage the abdomen, encouraging digestion. Also, the heart is elevated over the head, which helps increase both blood and lymph circulation.

Viparita Karani (Legs up the Wall):

This helps to increase blood and lymph circulation. Fresh blood flows to the abdomen encouraging digestion and this pose also calms the nervous system.

Parivritta Marichyasana (Seated Twist):

The seated twist stimulates digestion by squeezing abdominal organs.

Sasangasana (Rabbit):

Not only is rabbit a fun pose to say and do, it also stimulates the thyroid gland, improves immune system, balances hormones and improves circulation.

Parivrtta Parsvakonasana (Twisted Revolved Side Angle Pose):

Like the reclined and seated twists, this post stimulates digestion and blood flow, but also offers added leg strengthening and elongation of the spine.

Salamba Sarvangasana (Supported Shoulderstand) & Halasana (Plow):

These two inversion poses offer a number of benefits like:

  • better sleep, digestion and focus
  • benefitting the cardiovascular, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems
  • Relieving back pain by counteracting the pull of gravity
