It’s often an overlooked gesture, leaving a note or a little message for someone. With this hectic world we live in, we often overlook a simple thing that even though it’s easy to do, it can mean so much.

Memorial Day Weekend is just a few days away, and with that thoughts of BBQ, Pool Parties, Laying on the Beach all frequent everyone’s mind. Especially after the winter we’ve had, we open the summer with open arms and are ready for plenty of gatherings with friends and family. When it comes to parties its always a guessing game as to what to serve your guests, something that’s refreshing but fun – well have I found that answer to something new and for those who love their wine like me!
Lush is an all-natural and organic dry mix that you mix with your favorite type of wine, put it in the freezer and 6-8 hours later it’s a delicious, frozen, wine slush. Similar in consistency to a frozen margarita. Started by Owners Erin Rose Myers or Kelli Jennings, two sister-in-laws, at a holiday gathering. They wanted something different to serve at a party, that was fun and fit their wants of quality and pure/organic ingredients. (Why didn’t someone think of this sooner – its genius!!!)
Lush currently comes in 2 options: Original and the Sangria. With 3 simple ingredients you’ve got yourself wine slushies (Lush Wine Mix, Your Favorite Bottle of Wine (Red, White, even Champagne) and Ice – that’s its! They do recommend the Sangria with a red wine, although it works well with a white too.One bag of Lush goes with 1 bottle of wine. You more than double your volume as each bag of Lush will yield 55 oz of wine slush. Your normal 750ml bottle of wine is just over 25 oz. You should get approximately 11 servings out of 1 bag of Lush. Also you can make it in the freezer ahead of time, or use a blender – depending on the quantity/demand of the guests. For those that don’t want an alcoholic beverage, you can make the this non-alcoholic as well with either sparking cider, ginger ale or juice (instructions available on their website). Lush gives a $1 of every bag purchased to help feed families struggling with hunger. Typically Lush gives back through Feeding America; however, they’ve also donated to local charities as well such as the Golden Backpack Program and Denver Rescue Mission. You can feel good drinking your Lush knowing that you helped provide a meal to a hungry family.
This past weekend I had the pleasure to share the Lush Wine Mix with my guests at my son’s baptism, and from what I heard – it was a BIG hit! I paired it with a white wine, light a fruity, and used the blender method which worked wonderfully to whip up a fresh batch when needed. I even have one more package that I am going to bring along for my cousins bachelorette party this coming weekend – can’t wait … yum!! I am BEYOND impressed with this product and the easy of use, this is a great alternative to parties and especially during the summer months.

Now that April is behind us, many are thinking (and some are dreading) the next upcoming holiday … Mother’s Day. With the endless options available, the question is always asked, “What do I get Mom??!” Well in this review I’ve got your covered for a gift I think she’ll love regardless of the time of year! I know when it comes to gifts its nice to get something special and unexpected in the mail, and whats nicer then 2 bottles of specially selected wines delivered right to your recipients door step. When I was approached by Mora’s Fine Wine & Spirits for their famous Wine Club, I couldn’t contain myself (if you know me then you know I LOVE my wine!!)
Those who aren’t familiar with Mora’s Fine Wine & Spirits, they were established in 1989 from a small neighborhood liquor store in East Setauket, NY – and transformed it into a fine wine shop. They have a vast selection both broad and globally, having both local vineyards wine available and just about any commercially available wine in the world, and is frequently updated. Whats also great is that they give background behind each carefully selected wine, and help to teach you while you enjoy your wine.
Now for Mother’s Day this is a perfect pairing, with this wine club they receive two bottles delivered each month with information included on each wine. You choose your price point/budget, and if you want a mix (1 red/1 white) or two of the same (2 reds or 2 whites).
As you can see from the above, I was able to try a mixed box. I received a Sonoma-Loeb Chardonnay 2011 & a Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Three Valleys Dry Creek 2011. The informational card that was included was insightful on each vineyards history, and geographic location. They also mention what pairing the wine goes well with.
Both were served at my house this past weekend for the holiday, and I did hear that the Ridge Vineyards Red was a hit (one of my favorites as well). It is a great mixed varietal of different grapes which makes it a smooth red something that goes with just about any dish and was an easy drinking wine as well. The Sonoma- Loeb Chardonnay was excellent as well, and even though I am not a chardonnay drinker was very good.
In all I was very impressed with Mora’s Wine Club and am looking forward to other wine shipments in the upcoming months.
