MAKE Beauty | Review

When it comes to beauty products I have my fair share. I read review (much like the this one your reading) and I do my own research. Finding products that work, aren’t going to cost too much, and aren’t bad for you are my main focus points when it comes to makeup. I also like finding products that are made locally, helping the nearby economy. So when I was given the opportunity to try a local brand, MAKE, I was ready for the challenge.

MAKE is a beauty company based out of New York City. They believe that beauty has no rules, and everyone has their own artistic approach. Be inspired, whimsical, outgoing, outspoken, intelligent, and confident. The products are sourced without parabens, and are not tested on animals. They also donate 10% of sales to the We See Beauty Foundation, supporting women-lead, worker-owned cooperative businesses across the Americas.

The product lines they offer are the typically; Beauty (face, eyes, lips, cheeks) & Skincare (cleansers, toners, moisturizers). I was lucky enough to try to products from their beauty line (pictured below). I received the Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Alabaster and Silk Cream Lipstick in Taffy.

The Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Alabaster is a soft eggshell with peach undertones, perfect base shadow for most any look. The shadow was extremely velvety on the skin, and had great pigmentation. Vitamins C & E are amongst the ingredients in the shadow and help to provide antioxidant protection on the delicate eye area. This can be used either wet or dry. Being my skin tone is a little pale at the moment from the winter it was a bit hard to notice the color, however I think once I do get a little color this Summer this would be a great go to for a fresh swipe of color across the eyelid.

The Silk Cream Lipstick in Taffy was is a medium pink with purple undertones, I was classify this as one of the go to lipstick colors choices in the mauve family. The lipstick has vivid color, and was very creamy. Rosehip, Soybean, Safflower Oils are amongst the ingredients in the lipstick and help to provide a protective moisturizing treatment. The lipsticks are feather resistant and true to color. As you can see for the swatch I took below, this color is very pretty even though I am fair-skinned at the moment. A great color tone for most everyone I think, and it was nice how it wasn’t heavy or drying on the lips.

In all I was pleasantly surprised by the company and products as a whole. Plus the cute packaging didn’t hurt either. I look forward to sampling more of their products soon. The New Year is here, and with that many resolutions and change. In this month BeautyBox5 they are helping give you all you need to be open to those fresh possibilities.

BeautyBox5 – is a subscription based beauty sampling program that send 5 cosmetic samples to your door monthly. It is geared to helping introduce women to new cosmetic products and educating them as well. The products vary monthly and are based on best products for your lifestyle.

Memberships perks for being a monthly BeautyBox5 subscriber is:

In this months subscription box, I received the following items:

  • Coastal Scents Eye Shadow (Set 42 – mint condition, sundried, stone cold, & wild raisin)
  • Sally Hansen  Salon Effects (330 – fly with me)
  • Ultraflesh The Gold Standard Mascara in Blackout
  • Softsoap Nutri Serums Vitamin E Body Wash
  • Garner Fructis Daily Care Fortifying Shampoo

The full products this month valued at over $100, a great steal for only $12/monthly subscription.

There is also the option to subscribe quarterly for $30 (save $6), or yearly for $99 (save $45).

  1. Coastal Scents Eye Shadow  This set of 4 super pigmented shadows are good great whether they are paired together for an all over look or just a few to accent. I thought the colors were great paired with one another however myself I didn’t like the consistency. I have become more of a fan of mineral powder type shadows and the airiness they give to your eyes. The colors were bold however and smooth.
  2. Sally Hansen  Salon Effects Have you ever wanted a manicure that lasted 10 days? With these nail strips just apply and smooth over nails and you’ll have easy nail art. Plus it comes off easily with just nail polish remover. I have had the pleasure to try similar products from direct sales companies. I did notice a bit of a difference between the two. I found that these didn’t last as long on my nails and left more of a residue when removed. The patterns are great and fun; definitely worth a try.
  3. Ultraflesh The Gold Standard Mascara in Blackout  Dramatic, thicker lashes are what more women want. The expert wand on this mascara gets every lash coated for major results. Mascara is one thing that any woman is always looking to find the best of. I will agree the wand on this mascara is great, and helps to define lashes without clumping.
  4. Softsoap Nutri Serums Vitamin E Body Wash  Treating your body to moisture and a great fresh scent is a must for most. But how about adding softening serum pearls with Vitamin E, and Omega 3 & 6 to give your skin the nutrients it needs during these dry winter months. This was a clean wash, and did keep my skin hydrated after showering; however I am very particular on ingredients in my products.
  5. Garner Fructis Daily Care Fortifying Shampoo What woman wouldn’t want healthier hair for the New Year?? Strengthen your hair with the grapefruit antioxidants and proteins, fortifying your hair and adding shine. For me I used to use this brand a while back, before I found out about sulfates and parabens. So for the reason I didn’t use this product. I have heard great things about it, however for me it didn’t work.

  • Bellapierre Cosmetics Cheek and Lip Stain in Pink
  • Extend Your Beauty Cosmetic Tool
  • Nanacoco Nail Polish (Mermaid Lake)

The products this month valued at over $35, a great steal for only $12/monthly subscription.

There is also the option to subscribe quarterly for $30 (save $6), or yearly for $99 (save $45).

  1. Chapstick Hydration Lock – This double-ended lipbalm gives 2 conditioning formulas that will not only protect your lips, but also smooth them. It can bear worn alone, or under a lipstick or gloss for extra protection.
  2. Bellapierre Cosmetics Cheek and Lip Stain in Pink – I myself love products that have multi purposes, and this one is just that. This easy to use check and lipstain is a perfect easy morning add, or to have in your purse for a quick fix. The color is a great one too, subtle but noticeable.
  3. Extend Your Beauty Cosmetic Tool –  I don’t know about you, but when I get down to the end of my makeup I will try anything to get that last little bit out. I’ve tried using q-tips and other items to scrape the last bits out, but never can get it all. With this cosmetic tool, you can easily scrape it out. Just think of it like a rubber spatula you use to scrape out the last little bits of brownie mix in a bowl; it makes it easy. Definitely a recommendation!!
  4. Nanacoco Nail Polish (Mermaid Lake) – Nail polish, one can not have enough. This teal color is a great transition color for the fall months, just looking at it makes my day a little better. It’s a high quality formula as well, for professional results.
  5. Lashem Picture Perfect – Who doesn’t want Picture Perfect skin at ANY age. This serum helps to reduce those fine lines for a gorgeous glow, and also doubles as a primer to provide a smooth canvas for your makeup. Double duty product!

IT Cosmetics: Bye Bye Pores Review

20140711-092239-33759666.jpg

I have always struggled with my skin, especially oversized pores all beginning when I was in my teens. For me it was something I would try almost anything to lessen visibility but the products I tried didn’t really work especially the drugstore makeup I used would make my face cakey and the pores would be even MORE visible then before. Had I found this products back in the late 90s, early 2K time period I may have found my answer. So when the people over at IT Cosmetics contacted me to try out they’re award-winning Bye Bye Pores Translucent Powder – I couldn’t wait!!

IT Cosmetics® founder Jamie Kern Lima works with leading plastic surgeons to develop innovative, clinically-proven, problem-solving products infused with the latest breakthroughs in anti-aging technology.

Bye Bye Pores HD Micro Finishing Powder is the perfect setting powder and all over face finishing powder. This powder is infused with hydro collagen to smooth lines, luxurious silk for a poreless finish, and vitamin K to help reduce discoloration. It also contains anti-aging anti-oxidants Vitamins A, C, and E to help ward off free radicals throughout the day. This translucent formula works on most skin tones. Talc, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalate free. Hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. To best apply, it is recommended to use the heavenly luxe powder brush. This 100% cruelty-free high quality synthetic brush is ultra-luxurious. The soft touch rubberized handle makes application easy and enjoyable. The ultra-high brush hair count makes for the most effective distribution of powder and an ultra-luxe feeling on the skin.

After a regular makeup application (during the summer I don’t apply makeup) shake powder into the top of the container and use the powder brush and tap off excess powder. Lightly buff  the powder all over skin and be careful not to place too much in one area.

I highly recommend the Bye Bye Pore Powder to anyone looking for a perfect setting powder that wont clog your pores and the formulation of ingredients are good for your skin. If your ready to check out these two items for yourself, stop on over to:
