Spellbinders Celebra’tion Collection Kit: Review

Crafting and DIY projects are my favorite (when I have time), so when I was chosen to try out the new Celebra’tion Collection by Richard Garay I was beyond happy.  For those unfamiliar with Spellbinders is a papercrafts company that offers beautiful collections of dies & stamps sets, papers and inks. They also offer How-To Videos, and Idea Gallery to get your creative juices flowing.

Dies & Stamp Sets: This fun collection of stamps and dies include a range of designs from the whimsical to the fresh and modern. All stamps are made of photopolymer and feature cling technology so they can effortlessly adhere to clear blocks.

Paper: The Celebra’tions Cardstock and Pattern Paper come in captivating colors that are sure to brighten your day. Available in both sold color cardstock and perfectly coordinated printed paper.

Inks: True Color Fusion Stamp Pads are like no other stamp pads you have ever created with. These unique hybrid inks provide the best of both worlds, blending the benefits of dye and pigment ink all in one. The inks dry quickly, have no chalky residue, and do not fade. They can be used on all types of material, including paper, fabric, wood, and acrylic, and become permanent when heat set on non-paper materials. The pads come in each of the 12 colors within the palette, plus black, coordinating beautifully with the solid and printed papers. 20140724-192542-69942764.jpg

I was provide two kits to review: (1) Celebrate Party Hat Card & (2) Best Day Ever Treat Bag.

Both were super easy to put together and were required minimal work for some great homemade pieces.  The Celebrate Party Hat Card would be a perfect way to send someone you care a card – showing that you care that much extra. The Best Day Ever Treat Bag is a great idea to have a parties, when desert time comes and no one has room for it. Send your guests home with the goodies in their very own bag to remember the occasion.

I also received a bunch of stamps (Many Words) that I have to start using on my upcoming projects soon. Great touches to personalize a card or note to someone.

In all I was pleased with the projects, and will be defiantly looking to add more of these craft items to my selection.

Happy Crafting!!

DIY: Fold Over Elastic Hair Ties & Headbands

So I liked most women use elastic round black hair ties, but I found that they almost ALWAYS left creases in my hair. A few months ago I saw that you could purchase these flat hair ties at clothing boutiques. Now I broke down and spent $7-8 for a of them to try them out and I was BLOWN away how they didn’t damage my hair, no creases, and didn’t slip off. Now, the only thing was I couldn’t warrant spending that amount of money for only a handful of hair ties, when I need to replace them – so I found out by looking online that you can purchase the exact material (fold over elastic) and make them yourself at home, PLUS you can customize and have different designs based on what material you purchase online.

While I was doing my research I stumbled upon a WONDERFUL selection of DIY items on Etsy, DIY Supplies and Kits . DIY Supplies and Kits on Etsy, is your place to get all your do-it-yourself crafting supplies. They carry elastic by the yard, shabby chic flower trim, chiffon and tulle flowers, grosgrain ribbon, metal and acrylic buttons, resin and rhinestone embellishments and so much more. All of their products are ideal for so many projects including hair bows and headbands, scrap booking, and wedding and prom accessories.

I was able to try out a bunch of their fold over elastic (5/8″) and chiffon and tulle flowers, as you can see from the image above.

To make your own this is what you need:

  • A Yard of 5/8″ Fold Over Elastic
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Lighter

Now once you have your 5/8″ Fold of Elastic, you’ll need to measure it to either a headband length or hair tie length. Now I measured that original ones I had and it appears that a hair tie should measure 8-9″ when you cut it, and a headband should measure 18″ when you cut it (of course you can change this depending on our comfort).

Once the fold of elastic is cut, you will fold it in half and tie the end into a knot. From there it’s as simple as taking a lighter and sealing the edge so that it doesn’t unravel (do this carefully and fast).

That’s it!! Simple as that. Now as you can see on the last image above – I took one of the headband and added one of the chiffon and tulle flowers to emblesh it. Super easy, just use a fabric glue from your local craft store – find out where you want it placed before you use the glue and then glue on flower.

I love that I can do this at home, now the only thing I need is a daughter to wear there.

If your ready to get your craft-on and make your own hair ties, headbands, etc – head on over to DIY Supplies and Kits via the links below (let them know that SavvyChicMama sent you!)
